Edward W. “Mule Man” Ashcraft, 83 of Salem passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at River Oaks. He was born February 11, 1935 in Wallace, WV; the son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Ercel Pauline Pope Ashcraft.
Edward served in the United States Navy with twenty years of service. He was a school bus driver, enjoyed farming and was seen in town pulling his horse trailer and got the nickname “Mule Man”. He was a member of the St Johns Masonic Lodge #24 AF&AM in Shinnston. He was a state champion coon hunter in seven states and never met a stranger.
Edward is survived by his wife Jo Ann Ash Ashcraft of sixty five years; one son, Kenneth Edward Ashcraft and spouse Eileen of Salem; six grandchildren, Kenneth “Dwayne” Ashcraft, Joseph Ashcraft, Jason Ashcraft, Stacy Stout and husband Ron, Heidi Ashcraft and Jimmy Cain; three great grandchildren, Erin, Brooke, and Dakota; three brothers, Rodney Ashcraft and wife Kay, Randall Ashcraft and wife Shirley all of Salem, and Irvin Ashcraft of West Milford; one brother-in-law, Delbert Ash and wife LuRae, Big Flint, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Edward is preceded in death by one son, Dennis Ray Ashcraft in 2018; an infant sister and one brother Ralph Ashcraft.
Family will receive friends at Greathouse Funeral Home, 1999 W. Main Street, Salem, on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 from 3-8pm; Funeral Service will be held at Greathouse Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Larry McKim officiating . Interment will follow at K of P Cemetery where Masonic Funeral Rites will be accorded by the St Johns Lodge #24 of Shinnston and full military honors will be accorded by the United States Navy.
