Allen "Al" Lee Ash, Sr.

Allen “Al” Lee Ash, Sr., 81 of Wallace passed Saturday, July 31, 2021 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.  He was born March 6, 1940 in Smithfield, the son of the late Blaine and Mary (Barker) Ash.

Al is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Janet Sue Lantz Ash who he married on June 22, 1964; one son, Anthony Ash and Christine, Salem; daughter in law, Michelle Bartley Ash, Wallace; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Leonia Martin of Philippi and Maeomia Wadsworth of Elkins; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his son, Allen L Ash Jr on February 8, 2018 and one brother, Argel Ash.

Al graduated from Bristol High School, Class of 1959. He served his country in the United States Army Reserves. Al worked at Bethlehem Steel Company, Sparrows Point, MD from 1959-1990. While in Maryland, he enjoyed hunting. He went to Colorado hunting elk on two different occasions.  Al had a love for airplanes and he obtained his private pilot license and bought a plane. He and Janet went camping in thirty states over the years and also to Toronto, Canada. Their first dog, Samantha always went with them.  Al loved all ten dogs that they acquired during the marriage.  He left behind his dog Brandy.  When he moved to WV, he started collecting antique cars.  He acquired five cars and loved working on them. Most of all, Al loved his family.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home - Salem, 1999 W. Main Street, Salem, on Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 10AM until time of Funeral Service at 3:00PM with Pastor Edwin Balis officiating.
