Audra "Sue" Alkire Obituary

Audra “Sue” Alkire, 80, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. She was born on April 17, 1946, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Glenn A. and Betty Sue Flanigan Burr.

Sue was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose greatest happiness was found in the family she loved so dearly. She shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Winston C. “Bud” Alkire. They were married on December 20, 1965, and through nearly six decades together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, family, and countless treasured memories.

In addition to her husband, Sue is survived by two sons, Cary Alkire and wife Candace of Summersville, WV, and Carl Alkire and husband Brandon of Thelma, KY; four grandchildren, Taylor, Colton, David, and Joshua; four great-grandchildren, London Avery Harris, Victoria Mae Alkire, Elias Thomas Alkire, and Ava Lynn Wiley; one sister, Judy Shaffer; two brothers, Ronnie Burr and wife Kathryn, and Eddie Burr and wife Donna; brother-in-law, David Kimball; and several nieces and nephews.

Sue is also survived by the daughter she never had, her beloved fur baby, Bella, who held a very special place in her heart and was a constant source of companionship and love.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jason Alkire; one sister, Sheila Kay Kimball; and brother-in-law, Richard Shaffer.

Sue had a wonderfully creative spirit and could often be found crafting or painting. She had a special ability to turn her imagination into something beautiful, and she found both happiness and comfort in creating things with her hands. She also loved the outdoors, especially camping and spending time surrounded by nature.

More than anything, Sue loved her family. Whether it was a camping trip, a family gathering, or simply time spent together, those moments meant everything to her. She treasured watching her family grow through the generations and took tremendous pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her kindness, warmth, creativity, and love will remain a lasting part of the lives of those fortunate enough to have known her.
