Betty Brannon, 88, passed away Monday evening, May 1, 2017, at her home in Salem,
WV. She and her husband, Hobert C. (Bud) Brannon were married on that date, 69
years ago, and they held hands as they had for so many years, as she was ushered
into Glory. Betty was born September 7, 1928, in her childhood home in Big
Flint, WV, the youngest daughter of the late Larmer and Willa Gaskins.
She was a 1946 graduate of Doddridge County High School and worked as a switchboard operator for C & P Telephone Company in Clarksburg, WV, before devoting her life to her husband and their three children.
Betty is survived by her husband and their children, Timothy (&Melba) Brannon of Wayne, PA, Donna (&Don) Staddon of Salem, WV, and Judy (& Wayne) Brearly of Cornwall, PA; 16 grandchildren, Todd (& Bridget) Brannon, Julie (& Derek) Steed, Steven (& Johanna) Brannon; Donald, Michael, Robert (& Kendalyn), Esther, James, Daniel (& Kathryn), Jonathan, and David Staddon; Tim (& Sarah), David (& Elsbeth), Tricia Chastain (& Cameron), and Chris Brearly; and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Elouise Freeman, Rhea Childers, and Jean Gaskins, and two brothers, Keith and Neil Gaskins.
Betty was an active member of the Salem United Methodist Church and Methodist
Women's Club. She was an accomplished seamstress, an avid doll collector, and
enjoyed crafting and antiquing with her husband, Bud. Together, they enjoyed traveling
throughout the United States and visiting family in England, Ireland, and Japan but she
most enjoyed sitting on the porch swing with a grandchild or great-grandchild on her lap.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Harbert Funeral Home 287 W. Main St. Salem on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 1:00PM with Pastor Kevin Bender presiding. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park, West Union. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel Saturday, May 6, 2017 after 11AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church 260 E. Main St. Salem, WV 26426. Harbert Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Brannon family.
