Captain Joan Ellen Mituniewicz

September 12, 1955 ~ August 26, 2021 (age 65)


Captain Joan Ellen Mituniewicz, 65, of Salem passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at United Hospital Center.  Joan was born September 12, 1955 in Glen Cove, NY, daughter of the late Walter and Theresa Gise Mituniewicz.

Joan graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School in Levittown, NY. She had extensive training as a merchant marine to become a ship’s Captain. She enjoyed farming, gardening and playing the trumpet, especially Taps for the military. She belonged to the Holy Innocent Knight of Columbus Drum and Bugle Corp and also the Greater Clarksburg Kennel Club where she held several offices. Her love and passion were rescuing all animals and dog training. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. 

Joan is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Diane Prunetti and Carmen, Dunedin, FL; caregivers, Kim and Tim Arrington and children, Micah, Seth and Ember. 

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Mituniewicz.

A private Graveside Service will be held the Lanham Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at the farm at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory can be made to Harrison County Humane Society, 2450 Saltwell Rd, Shinnston, WV 26431. Online condolences may be sent at Davis Funeral Home Salem is handling the arrangements and honored to serve the Mituniewicz family.
