Carl E. Samples, 77, of Waldo Run community, Salem departed this life on Thursday, October 20, 2011 in the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport. He was born August 15, 1934 in Harrison County a son of the late Carl B. and Catherine Perine Samples. He is survived by his wife Cherlottie Childers Samples.
Also surviving are one sister, Jean Barber, Clarksburg, two brothers, Joe Samples, Clarksburg, and Jim Samples, Cherry Camp Run Road. He was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Buckhannon and two brothers, Robert and Bill Samples.
SP4 Samples had been a member of WV National Guard, 1092 Engineer Battalion Company C as a cook for 21 years. He had worked for Salem Glass Factory and had cut right-of-ways. He enjoyed farming and riding his tractor and was a member of the Bristol United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM in the Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main St., Salem on Monday, October 24, 2011 with Reverend Carl Radcliff presiding. Interment will follow in the Chestnut Grove Church Cemetery, Big Flint. Family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, October 23 from 4-8PM and after 9AM on Monday.
