Charles E Swisher

Charles E. Swisher, 93, of Wallace, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.  He was born on January 25, 1933 in Morganville, a son of the late Francis William Swisher and Edna Pearl Matthey Swisher.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Katherine Jean Krashan and husband John, Margaret Ann Ritchie and companion Daniel Keller, Jonathan Edward Davis and wife Jacqueline, and William Theadore Davis; special neighbors, Consuela Jones and Linda Zinn; a special “stepdaughter” Joanna Allen and husband Tim.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sister, Eva Davis; nieces and nephews, Evelyn Sue  Hughes and Steven Craig Davis.

Charles proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army and later continued his service with the National Guard. Following his military service, he built a career as a skilled carpenter in the building and contracting industry, where his craftsmanship and strong work ethic earned the respect of those who knew him.

An outdoorsman at heart, Charles found peace in the mountains, spending countless hours hunting, fishing, and restoring heavy equipment. A true mountain man, he valued his privacy and chose to live life on his own terms. Though quiet and independent, those who knew Charles also knew him as a man of great generosity. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, share what he had, and quietly support others without expecting anything in return. His strength of character, self-reliance, and kind heart will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Wolverton Cemetery, Salem, with Military Honors.   Online condolences may be shared at www.davisfuneralhomesalemwv.com. Davis Funeral Home Salem is honored to serve the Swisher family.
