Charles E. “Buck” Childers, Jr, 63, of Smithburg, WV, was called home on Saturday, November 18, 2023, surrounded by his family. Buck was a beloved husband, father, pap, and friend with a passion for the outdoors. He loved nothing more than spending time hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and friends.
He was born March 10, 1960, in Salem, WV, to the late Charles E. and Rachel A. Childers. He proudly served as a member of the Army National Reserve and began his career in oil and gas by his father’s side more than 45 years ago. He was a highly skilled well operator and part of the GreyLock Energy family for 20 years.
He was wed on September 21, 1979, to his one and only true love, Carolyn. He greatly enjoyed exploring the natural beauty of our state and trips to the mountains with the love of his life. He spent many of his happiest moments in the great outdoors, surrounded by nature and those he loved.
Buck is survived by his wife, Carolyn Shaver Childers; his two daughters, Amanda Bunting and her husband Matt of Smithburg; and Sarah Garrett and her husband BJ of Good Hope; his four grandchildren, who were his pride and joy Collin Bunting (McKenzie), Carley Bunting, Donovon Garrett, and Michael Garrett; he was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his great-grandson Waylon Bunting; several nieces and nephews who he loved as his own; his two sisters June Wilt (Ronnie) and Julia Childers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Peggy Adams (David) and Beth Ashcraft (Mark), and brother William “Billy” Childers.
Those close to him will never forget his kind heart, his generosity, and his willingness to lend a helping hand. Buck’s friends knew that he considered them all family; to him, family wasn’t determined by blood but by love. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through the countless memories he created and the lives he touched.
Although his work on earth is done, his life in heaven has just begun. His struggles here were hard and long, but they’re over now, and he is finally home.
Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home Salem, 1999 W Main Street, Salem, on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 from 3:00 pm until time of Funeral Service at 7:00 pm with Pastor Dana Lanham officiating.
