Chesna Merritt Obituary

Chesna Helen Merritt, 86 of Salem departed this life on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in the Genesis Health Care Center, Salem. She was born on June 8, 1930 on England's Run (Doddridge County) a daughter of the late Charles Clair and Chesna Sutton McConnell. On April 10, 1953 she married Charles "Louie" Merritt who preceded her in death on October 15, 2014.

Surviving is two daughters, Beth Ann Gill, Fairmont, Patty Demorest and husband John, Salem grandchildren, Louie Baker, Misha Nicole Hymes, John Lee Gill Jr. and David Gill, great grandchildren, Charles and Dakota Gill, Charles Hymes II, Madison, Annabelle and Adalynn Gill, one sister, Monta Juanita McConnell, West Union and several nieces and nephews. One grandson, Chad Baker and two twin brothers Lane and Blaine McConnell also preceded her in death.

Helen was a member of the Salem Church of God. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening and working word puzzles. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Salem Church of God 119 State St. Salem on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 11:00AM with Pastor Mike Cox and Pastor Richard Gibson presiding. Mrs. Merritt will lie in state one hour prior to her service. Interment will follow in the K of P Memorial Park, Salem. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, June 26, 2016 from 4-8PM. Harbert Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Merritt family.
