Darrell L. Bailey, 88, of Salem passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 under the care of Peoples Hospice after a two year battle with cancer. He was born January 17, 1924 in Linn, WV the son of the late Oscar And Lona Rinehart Bailey.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Loreda Reeder Bailey, two sons, Linwood Bailey and William (Doug) and wife Tina Bailey, both of Salem. He is also survived by two grandsons, Andrew and wife Pegi Bailey of Clarksburg and Ethan Bailey of Salem. He has one step great granddaughter Kasey Kesner of Wise, VA and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Elser, Maycell Jack and Marvell Alfred.
Darrell worked for Carnation Milk Co. and was a tour bus driver for Park Tours/Coach USA until he retired at 85 years of age. He was a former councilman and Mayor of the City of Salem. He was a former member of the Salem Volunteer Fire Department and he was a member of the Salem Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11AM on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in the Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main St., Salem with Pastor Charles Warger presiding. Interment will follow in the Rock Grove Cemetery, Linn, WV in Lewis County. Family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Monday, March 26, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and after 9AM on Wednesday until time of service.
