David Paul Davis Sr., 87, of Salem, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
David was born September 7, 1938, in Wilbur, West Virginia, the son of the late Eldon and Mami Faith Thomas Davis. He was adopted and raised by Bert and Marvia Barker Davis. Throughout his life, David was known as a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family and helping others. For more than 33 years, he worked at Country Club Chrysler, specializing in autobody and frame repair. With skilled hands and a determined spirit, he helped put thousands of cars back together, building a reputation for dedication and craftsmanship.
Beyond his work, David had a deep appreciation for simple joys and lifelong hobbies. He was an avid collector who enjoyed gathering pop bottles, Coca-Cola memorabilia, and Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars. He loved spending time outdoors camping at Kumbrabow State Forest, and one of his favorite trips was visiting Cooter’s Garage in Sperryville, Virginia, known from The Dukes of Hazzard, a show he truly loved. At home, it was common to find The Dukes of Hazzard, MASH or Westerns playing on the television, bringing him comfort and familiar laughter.
Above all else, David’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He cherished his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and supporting them in all they did. His presence, encouragement, and quiet strength will forever remain in their hearts.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Elizabeth Underwood Davis, whom he married on July 5, 1975. He also leaves behind his children, Rebecca Dawn Mace (Scott) of Salem and David Paul Davis Jr. of Salem; seven grandchildren, McKenzie Davis McCoy, Justin Mace (Abbigail), Brandon Mace, Jasper Davis, Carson Davis, Bow Davis and Dustin Hrynko; along with four half-brothers and a half-sister, nieces, and nephews who will remember him with love.
In addition to both sets of parents, David was preceded in death by two siblings, Vera Barker (Otis) and Ancel Curry (Janette).
