David C. Westfall

David C. Westfall, 86, of Salem went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 6, 2010 in the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport.

Mr. Westfall was born February 7, 1924 at Wolf Summit, a son of the late Otto O. and Zella Hurst Westfall. On August 31, 1943 he married Jessie M. Harbert Westfall, who preceded him in death in 1995.

Surviving is one daughter, and son in law, Joyce and Larry Zirkle, Salem and three grandchildren and their spouses, Kent and Missy Zirkle, Scott and Stephanie Zirkle, all of Salem, Michele and Shannon Kimble, Columbus, OH, two great grandchildren, Lucas and Emma Zirkle, one brother and sister in law, Drexall and Martha Jane Westfall, Shinnston, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were five sisters, Eva Morris, Lois Westfall, Mary Westfall, Olive Fittro, Clarabelle Powell and two brothers, Marshall and Victor Westfall.



Mr. Westfall was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served at the Battle of the Bulge, as well as in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a member of the Marshville Baptist Church and was Apple Butter King in 1990. He was a former member of the Salem Senior Citizens, and he was Salem Apple Butter King in 1990. He was retired from Anchor Hocking and was a graduate of Bristol High School. He liked squirrel hunting and working on cars with his grandsons.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2010 at 1PM in the Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main St., Salem with Reverend Ron Owens officiating. Friends may call in the funeral home chapel on Monday, November 8th from 2-4 and 6-8PM. Interment will follow in the Marshville Baptist Church Cemetery.
