Obituary

Davy “Butch” Lee Wetzel, Jr. 70, of Salem passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital with family by his side. He was born January 18, 1953 in Clarksburg, son of the late Davy Lee Wetzel Sr and Dorothy May Roach Wetzel. Butch graduated from Victory High School, Class of 1970 and from Fairmont State College with a Bachelors in Accounting. He served and retired with twenty-four years of service from the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota. He also worked at James and Law for about ten years and worked briefly at the FBI. When Butch was able, he was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed fishing with his Dad in North Dakota. He loved his fur babies and was a loving husband and father. Butch is preceded in death by his wife whom he married on July 21, 1973, Vickie Lynn Davis Wetzel on October 7, 2020. Butch is survived by his daughter, Jana Marie Wetzel, Salem; his son, Davy Lee Wetzel III, Salem; siblings, Randall Wetzel and companion Melinda Shields, Salem; Rhonda Sendling, Wolfe Summit, Barry Wetzel and Connie, Salem, Kevin Wetzel and companion Twila Bartlett, Clarksburg; brothers-in-laws, John Davis and Cynthia, Duncanville, TX, James Davis, Salem; sister-in-law, Janice Henrey and Donald Layfield, Sardis; several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and wife, Butch was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Neal Wetzel; sister-in-law, Sandra Wetzel, brother-in-law, Richard Davis. Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home - Salem, 1999 W Main Street, Salem, WV, on Sunday, August 13, 2023 from 12 Noon- 5pm and Monday, August 14, 2023 from 9AM until time of funeral service at 11:00AM with Pastor Bill Davis officiating. Interment will be at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens where full military honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
