Donald “Don” Raymond Staddon, Jr, 76, of Salem, WV stepped from this earth to glory on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. Don was born on July 9, 1948, in Morgantown, son of the late Donald R. Staddon Sr. and Doris Luella Steele Staddon Brown.
Don served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years and worked as an electrical engineer for Lockheed Martin. While in the military, he was greatly impacted by the seminars of the Institute in Basic Life Principles and the discipleship ministry of the Navigators which led to his lifelong love for memorizing, meditating on, and sharing the Word of God. His greatest delight was to study a subject until he understood it well enough to teach it to his children and others. The underlying principles of Scripture, music, geometry, calculus, and astronomy fascinated him. He loved his family and making memories with them, both at home and traveling across the United States. He married his dear wife, Donna, on June 11, 1977 and they treasured over 47 years together, raising 8 children, and helping to raise 15 grandchildren. Don was involved in pioneering home education in the state of Virginia and encouraging legislation that allowed for its growth. In Virginia and in West Virginia he encouraged his children to apply what they were learning through the avenues of music, writing, entrepreneurship, church ministry, and the Family Encouragement Weekend conferences.
Don is survived by his wife, Donna, and his children, Donald Staddon III of Salem; Michael (Elizabeth) Staddon also of Salem; Robert (Kendalyn) Staddon of Big Sandy, TX; (Jonathan) Esther Frazer of Sherbrooke, QC, Canada; James (Julianna) Staddon of Salem; Daniel (Kathryn) Staddon of Big Sandy, TX; Jonathan Staddon of Salem; and David Staddon also of Salem. Additionally, he is survived by his three siblings, (George) Joyce Bailey of Morgantown; Alan (Gretchen) Staddon also of Morgantown; and (Eugene) Vickie Rice of Peterstown, WV.
Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home in Salem, WV, on Monday, October 14th from 3pm-7pm, and Tuesday, October 15th from 9am-11am, followed by a service at the Davis Funeral Home and a graveside service at Blandville Cemetery.
