Dorothy June Gaskins, 86 of Gaskins Hollow Rd, Salem, departed this life on December 25, 2016, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 20, 1930 at Smithfield, WV, a daughter of the late Damon and Sarah Jane Stout Ash. On April 24, 1947 she married William Gerald Gaskins who preceded her in death on August 14, 1994. Also preceding her in death were 2 sons, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
Surviving are 3 children: Samuel (Terri) Gaskins, Salem; Sharon (Joe) Marshok, Clarksburg; Connie (Harry) Sanders, Salem. She also is survived by 7 grandchildren: Marsha (Mike) Smith, Parkersburg; William Earl (Crystal) Gaskins, Salem; Marc (Ramona) Gaskins, Orlando, Fl; Becky Gaskins (Brandon Tate), Morgantown; Amy Jo (Patrick) Moore, Clarksburg; Michael Sanders, Salem; Ashley Sanders (Dave Utter), Salem. Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren; Thaner Cox, Curtis & Summer Cox, Hannah Cox, Samantha Gaskins, Anthony & Kevin Gaskins, Braylon & Braxton Tate, Ala and Kieran Moore, Gianna Sanders and Ava Kay Utter; 5 step great-grandchildren, Raven and Cody Hayes, Emma Cox, Carly and Lilly Smith.
Dorothy was a long standing member of the Evergreen United Methodist Church on Big Flint.
A special thank you to Dr. Davis and Peoples Hospice. She especially loved her special nurse, Rachel. Also a thank you to Jennifer, Rochelle, Danna, Sharra, Emily and her caretaker, April. She had such a profound affect on everyone who came to know her.
Family will receive friends at Harberts Funeral Home, 287 W. Main St., Salem, from 4-8 on Wednesday, December 28, 2016. Funeral Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Edwin Balis officiating. A private family burial will immediately follow.
