Edith V. Lipscomb, 88, of Cherry Camp Rd., Salem went home to be with Jesus and her family in Heaven, Friday, September 27, 2013 from the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport.
She was born on September 1, 1925 on the family farm at Bristol, the daughter of the late Thurman T. and Edna Morris Hickman.
She was a cancer survivor who had courageously battled a debilitating heart condition for twelve years.
Her husband, Bert Lipscomb, whom she married July 27, 1946 preceded her in death on January 17, 1985. Through their thirty nine years of marriage they traveled extensively throughout the forty-eight contiguous states.
She is survived by one brother, Chester Hickman and wife, Stella, St. Mary's, three sisters, Dorotha Savage, Hattiesburg, MS, Carolyn Nutter, Salem, and Shirley Fox, Munroe Falls, OH, one sister-in-law, Lucille Hickman, Salem, four nieces, Louise McLaughlin and husband, Jim, Jeanette Moorehouse and husband, Ray, Mary Hunt and husband, Art, and Angela Larkin and husband, Tom, four nephews, Allen Savage and wife, Jo Ann, John Hickman and wife, Joanna, Edward Fox, and Jerry Fox and wife, Gina and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews and her precious cat, "Molly".
She was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank Hickman and wife, Lula, Harry Hickman and wife, Catherine, James Daniel Hickman and Thurman Jr. Hickman, two sisters and five brothers-in-law, Vesta Flanigan and husband, Mason, Jessiphene Ash and husband, Ralph, Elmo Savage, Clarence Nutter and John Fox.
She was a member of Bristol United Methodist Church where she had served in different positions in addition to being church treasurer for twenty seven years. She was a corporate auditor for the Social Security Administration, working from the Baltimore office, retiring in 1978. During her thirty-four years she had received many commendations for the quality of her work.
A great fan of the former Baltimore Colts, now the Ravens, she followed their season closely.
She loved the outdoors, especially small animals and through the years had rescued many animals, turning them into cherished pets. Her hobbies included, sewing, crocheting, knitting, making crafts and reading.
She was a quiet caring person who reached out to help others being generous with her time and talents. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to thanks two special ladies, Ronda and Sandy who went above and beyond in treating her so special with the love and care they gave her.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main St., Salem on Wednesday, October 2, 2103 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Danny Fleming presiding. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Cherry Camp Rd. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 from 4-7 PM.
