Edsel M. Davis, 81, of Lineville, Alabama, formerly of Salem, W.Va., passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Junior Cottrill, in Vienna, W.Va.
Mr. Davis was born in Salem, W.Va., a son of the late Lawrence T. Tim and Edna Grace Zinn Davis.
He retired from Dominion Hope after thirty years of service. He was a member of the Salem Seventh Day Baptist Church and the Salem Masonic Lodge No. 84. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He especially enjoyed playing golf, woodworking, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Hayes Davis; one daughter, Brenda Cottrill and husband, Junior, of Vienna, W.Va.; two sons, Edsel M. Davis, Jr. and wife, Toni, of Morehead City, North Carolina and Mike Davis and wife, Patty, of Marietta, Ohio; five sisters, Glenna VanPelt of Middleburg, Fla., Lula Roukema of Pensacola, Fla., Carolyn Hutson and husband, Dale, of Melbourne, Fla., Donna Ash of Salem, W.Va. and Elaine Marks and husband, Ronnie, of Cape Coral, Fla.; one brother, Carlton Davis of Grafton, W.Va.; sister-in-law, Peggy Denhem of Salem, W.Va.; brother-in-law, Clyde Kinney of Salem, W.Va. and his constant companion, Buddy; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert H. Davis; two sisters, DeVera Sutton and Junema Kinney; and two brothers-in-law, Wilbur Ash and Kenneth VanPelt.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at the Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main Street, Salem, W.Va. with Priest Larry J. Cottrill officiating. Interment with Masonic graveside rites will follow at the K of P Cemetery, Salem. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
