Elmarie Hickman, 74, of Bell St. Clarksburg departed this life on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in the United Hospital Center following an extended illness. She was born at Reynoldsville on November 14, 1938 a daughter of the late John Merritt Sr. and Barbara Fox Merritt. On March 15, 1955 she married James Hickman Sr. who preceded her in death on May 5, 1976.
Surviving are two daughters, Joyce & Melissa Hickman, Clarksburg, grandchildren, Carrie Hickman and fianc' Chad Proffer, Clarksburg, Payton Hickman and fianc Tabatha Duffy, Charlotte, NC, great granddaughter, Samara Proffer and several nieces and nephews. One son, James "Jimmy" Hickman Jr., two brothers, Bernard and John Merritt and two sisters, Wanda Kirkpatrick and Phyllis Pierce preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hickman retired from Heartland of Clarksburg as a CNA. She was a member of Summit Park Baptist Church. Elmarie enjoyed flower gardening, bird watching and her beloved pet cats, "Smokey & Shadow. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Harbert Funeral Home 287 W. Main St. Salem on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 1:00PM with Pastor Rick Owens presiding. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel after 11AM on Saturday, May 25, 2013 until service time.
