George Edgar Sutton, 91, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, West Virginia, surrounded by the love of a family that was at the center of his life.
Born in Fairchance, Pennsylvania on September 5, 1935, son of the late Lindsay Edgar and Agnes Rebecca Blair Sutton. George was one of 14 children and grew up knowing the meaning of family, hard work, and perseverance. He would later make his home in Brunswick, Ohio, where he and his wife, Jerry Lee Sutton, raised their family. In retirement, George and Jerry settled in Wolf Summit, West Virginia.
George and Jerry shared an extraordinary 69 years of marriage, a lifetime together that spanned generations and countless memories. Through all the seasons of life, they remained side by side, building a family that would become George’s greatest legacy.
George proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. Throughout his life, he also loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, enjoying the quiet, tradition, and companionship that came with time spent in the woods.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jerry Lee Sutton; his children, Alan Gail Sutton and his wife, Laura; Mark Wayne Sutton and his partner, Candy Orcutt; and Carol Ann Sutton, who lovingly cared for her father and was by his side during the later years of his life. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, generations who will carry his memory and the Sutton family legacy forward; five siblings; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his oldest son, George Lee Sutton, whose wife, Sherrie, survives him; his daughter-in-law, Ruby Sutton; and one grandchild; eight siblings.
George’s life stretched across more than nine decades, but its measure is found in something much simpler: the family he built, the people he loved, the years he shared with Jerry, and the memories he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who knew him.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, September 25, 2026 at Davis Funeral Home in Salem, West Virginia from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. A Graveside service will be held at Coplin Cemetery at 1:00 PM with Pastor Jon Hayes officiating where full military honors will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and the US Army Honor Guard. In honoring George’s life, his family remembers a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, outdoorsman, and patriarch whose presence will remain part of their family for generations to come.
