Georgia Matheny Obituary

Georgia Mae Matheny, 86, of Tarkiln Road, Salem departed this life on Saturday, December 11, 2010 in Marietta, Ohio in her daughters residence. She was born on October 23, 1924 at Shinnston a daughter of the late George W. and Bessie V. Powell Stewart. On August 3, 1951 she married Harry E. Matheny who preceded her in death on February 26, 2008.

Surviving are two daughters, Patty Davis and husband Mike, Marietta, OH, Martha McConnell and husband Danny, West Union, three sons, David Matheny and wife Patty, Salem, Mark Matheny and wife Debbie, Center Point, Eric Matheny and wife Desiree, Salem, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Two half brothers, Stanley and Ira Hyde preceded her in death.

Mrs. Matheny was a 1942 graduate of Shinnston High School and a member of the Salem Baptist Church. She enjoyed camping, square dancing and playing cards. Georgia was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held in the Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main St., Salem on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Denver Burnside presiding. Interment will follow in the K. of P. Memorial Park, Salem. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 from 2-8PM and after 9AM on Wednesday until time of service.
