Gregory “Greg” Dale Cummings, 69, of Clarksburg, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
Greg was born on July 18, 1956, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late Virgil Dale Cummings Sr. and Bonnie Emmaline Rogers Cummings.
Greg proudly served his country in the United States Army, spending the final part of his service stationed in Korea. After returning home, Greg built a life around hard work and craftsmanship. He was well known for his work tearing down old barns and reclaiming the historic wood, giving new life to materials that carried generations of stories. Through his work recovering antique barn wood, Greg helped preserve pieces of the past and had a deep appreciation for history and craftsmanship.
A skilled mechanic and heavy equipment operator, Greg could repair and operate nearly any machine he encountered. He also spent several years working as an over-the-road truck driver. No matter the job, Greg took pride in working with his hands and doing things the right way.
Greg had a lifelong passion for collecting antiques, always on the lookout for unique pieces and hidden treasures. He enjoyed the stories behind old items and the memories they represented.
More than anything, Greg treasured his family. Spending time with his loved ones, especially his many nieces and nephews, brought him great happiness. They held a special place in his heart, and he enjoyed sharing stories, laughter, and time together whenever he could.
Greg also shared a special bond with his loyal companions, his dog Rusty and his cat Bendigo, who were constant friends by his side.
He is survived by six sisters: Joyce Maready of Virginia; Patricia Runner (Frank) of Grafton; Bergettia “Darlene” Cummings of Clarksburg; Chris Richards (Darrell) of Big Isaac; Cindy Dickens (Terry) of Bridgeport; and Bonnie Johnson (John) of Smithburg, along with numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sherry Lynn Starkey Cummings, on August 21, 2025, and two brothers, Dwight Bob Cummings and Virgil Dale Cummings Jr.
