Harlin Adams Obituary

Harlin E. Gene Adams, 78 of Rt. 1 Salem departed this life on Thursday, April 22, 2010 in the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. He was born on October 6, 1931 at Coxs Mills a son of the late Ezra Charles and Lessie Lee Keister Adams. On April 27, 1953 he married Dorothy Frances Clevenger Adams who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Lucinda Kelley and Sherry Flanagan, Salem, three sons, Eugene M. And Charles Chuck Adams, Salem, Robert J. Adams and wife Sheila, Morgantown, six grandchildren, Stephen Kelley, Robert (Chrystal) Kelley, Morissa (Tad) Robinson, Amber Adams, Andrew and Mallory Adams, eight great grandchildren, Bryant, Taylor, Tristan, Isaiah, Ethan, Caydan, Emma and Sidni, three sisters, Margaret Patton, Harrisville, Linda Hatfield, Parkersburg, Maxine Elder, Williamstown, four brothers, Ace Adams, Weston, Scott Adams, Clarksburg, Wade Adams, Harrisville, Adrian Adams, Parkersburg and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Baby Jackie, one grandson, Joe Flanagan, one son-in-law, Danny Flanagan, four brothers, Glennard, Port, Kenneth and Gerald Adams and two sisters, Glenna Warner and Mary Radabaugh.

Mr. Adams retired from Consolidated Natural Gas Company with 38 years service as a welder. He taught Industrial Arts at Salem College for 10 years. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Korean Service Medal with 5 Battle Stars. Gene was a lifetime member and past commander of Sperry Davis VFW Post 9151, American Legion #68, I.O.O. F. Lodge #56 Salem, Knight of Pythians, Salem and Baptist by faith. He was an avid WVU and Salem College sport fan. Gene was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held in the Harbert Funeral Home 287 W. Main St. Salem on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 3:00PM with Pastor Paul Boyles presiding. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery, Salem. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 1-8PM and after 11AM on Sunday until time of service.
