Harry E. Matheny, 81, of Tarkiln Road, Salem, W.Va. passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 28, 1926 at Pine Bluff, W.Va., a son of the late Paul J. and Opal G. Heldreth Matheny.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Mae Stewart Matheny, whom he married Aug. 3, 1951; two daughters, Patty Davis and husband, Mike, of Marietta, Ohio, and Martha McConnell and husband, Danny, of West Union, W.Va.; three sons, David Matheny and wife, Patty, of Salem, W.Va., Mark Matheny and wife, Debbie, of Center Point, W.Va. and Eric Matheny and wife, Desiree, of Elloree, SC; eleven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Mr. Matheny was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by one brother, John Julian Matheny.
Harry was the owner/operator of Matheny's Body Shop in Salem from 1956 to 1969. He then became the owner/operator of Matheny's Excavating and Trucking Company until his retirement in 2002. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Salem Lodge No.84 Af&AM. He enjoyed camping, square dancing and listening to music. Harry had a very creative mechanical mind. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main Street, Salem, W.Va. with Pastor Denver Burnside officiating. Interment will follow in the K of P Memorial Park in Salem where Masonic Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Friendship Lodge No.56, Af&AM, West Union and Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Combined Veterans Organizations of Doddridge County. Friends may call from 6 - 8 P.M. Thursday and from 2 - 8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
