Helen Louise Bartlett Cropp Donithan, 88 of Salem departed this life on Thursday, September 18, 2014 in the Genesis Health Care Center, Salem. She was born in Fairmont on July 22, 1926 a daughter of the late Thamer Jahue and Helen Ewing Bartlett. She married Bille Ray Cropp in 1948 who preceded her in death on March 26, 1985.
Surviving are three daughters, Cindy Aspy and husband Tom, Miletus, Susan Melinda Johnson and husband David, Midland, MI, Bonnie Elizabeth Vought, Orlando, FL, one son Michael Ray Cropp and wife Frances, Guerneville, CA, grandchildren, James Erin Johnston, Laurie Jane Johnston, Sean Christopher Johnston, Hannah Aspy Conley, Robin Elizabeth Pontow, April Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Gabriel Christopher Johnson, Katy and Sarah Dearing, great grandchildren, Addison Johnston, Hayden Johnston, Seanna Johnston, Cheyenne Grainger, Ciara Johnston and Thomas Johnston , Kaydn Gomez and Mia Gomez and several nieces and nephews. One grandson, Samuel Johnson, three sisters, Betsy Moran, Genevieve McDowell and Virginia DeWitt preceded her in death.
Helen worked as a private cook for the William Platt family on Jupiter Island, FL. She enjoyed crocheting and working word search puzzles. Helen was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd, Salem and had been very active in Hobe Sound Baptist Church and Bridgeport Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Harbert Funeral Home 287 W. Main St. Salem on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:00AM with Pastor Sonny Palmer presiding. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, Fairmont. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Friday, September 26, 2014 from 4-8PM.
