Helen Deloris Plauger Hines of New Milton, WV, passed Monday April 7, 2025, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side. Helen was born to the late Dorsey and Nancy Lexie Davis Plauger, on January 7, 1937, in New Milton, WV. She graduated from Doddridge County High School in 1955. She married Kermit G. Hines, Jr in 1959, and they lived together in New Milton, WV. Together they raised 5 children.
She leaves as her legacy 4 children: Kermit Hines (Lisa), Seaford, DE, Michelle Gregori (Stephen), Hurlock, MD, Paul Hines (Theresa), Cambridge, MD, Christopher Hines (Sarah), Kenna, WV. Larry Siders (son-in-law), Salem. She also leaves to cherish her memory eighteen grandchildren Heather Cox, Annamarie Short, Oliver Frazier (Stephanie), Amber Siders, Erin Holliday, Krista Morrow (Clarence), Jenny Simmons, Kaleb Hines, Kaitlynn Gregori (fiancé Chris), Nicholas Gregori, Austin Hines, Danielle Bayes (Brandon), Andrew Hines (Sarah), Sophia Dyer (JD), Lexi Mosley (Kyle), Luke Vickers, Chloe Vickers, Emma Harless (Andrew); twenty two great-grandchildren Nerual McCandless, Quinn Cox, Kiah Short, Eva Short, Aleah Short, Ella Frazier, Rowan Fraizer, Wylder Frazier, Presleigh Baker, Sutavia Simmons, Suprel Simmons, Mekhi Simmons, Kingston Simmons, Kasen Hines, Kayci Hines, Kaden Hines, Kira Hines, Easton Bayes, Lillian Bayes, Laelynn Hines, Sadie Hines, Callie Hines, and 2 brothers Forrest Plauger (Helen) and Blaine Plauger, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Dorsey Plauger (father), Nancy Lexie Plauger (mother), Kermit Grover Hines, Jr., (spouse), Nancy Siders (daughter), and George Plauger (brother).
While her husband Kermit was active in the Navy, they lived in Virginia, Florida, and Rhode Island. When they returned to New Milton, she was employed by Doddridge County School Board as a substitute cook and later as a teacher’s aide serving special education and kindergarten students.
Helen was a member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church in New Milton, WV until its closing. She then transferred membership to Blandville United Methodist Church (now Blandville Community Church) in Blandville, WV. She was a member of the Ritchie/ Doddridge Gideons International Ladies Auxiliary. She volunteered as a 4-H Leader for 35 years, during which time she earned her All-Star Pin (the highest award in 4-H), and loved to cook for the camp each summer. She was honored as an outstanding leader at Jackson Mill 4-H state camp.
Family will receive friends at the Davis Funeral Home, 1999 W. Main Street, Salem, on Friday April 11, 2025 from 3-7 pm and Saturday April 12, 2025 from 9-11am; The funeral service will be held at Davis Funeral Home on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 11 am with Reverend Bill Davis presiding.
