Irene Upton

Irene Upton, 82 of Maplewood Dr. Bridgeport departed this life on Wednesday December 15, 2010 in the United Hospital Center. She was born on June 18, 1928 in Manchester, England a daughter of the late Leonard and Beatrice Parkinson Broad. She received her education at St. Marks Episcopal Church School, Manchester, England. On July 17, 1981 on Long Island, NY she married Robert G. Upton who survives.

Also surviving are one step son, Bradford Carl Upton, Dyer, IN, two brothers and sisters-in-laws, Jim and Eileen Broad, Dirk and Kate Broad all of Cheshire, England, one sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Alan Davis, of CT, and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, William and Ernest Broad, and one sister, Joan Dimiceli preceded her in death.

Mrs. Upton was a member of the Quiet Dell United Methodist Church where she was very active in the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Pete Dye and Clarksburg Country Clubs, Quiet Dell Garden Club and was a volunteer for Peoples Hospice. Irene was also a member of Friends of Fort New Salem, Harrison County Historical Society, Scottish Heritage Society, and the Alumni of Salem Auxiliary of Salem International University.

Funeral services will be held in the Quiet Dell United Methodist Church, Quiet Dell, on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 11:00AM with Reverend George Bramble presiding. Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport. The family will receive friends in the Quiet Dell Methodist Church on Monday, December 20, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.
