Katherine Elnora Junkins, 93 of Cherry Camp Road Community, Bristol went to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Sunbridge Nursing Home, Salem after a brief illness.
Katherine was born on October 16, 1914 in Lumberport a daughter of the late Seth Franklin and Olive Mable White Martin Kelly. On July 3, 1933 she married William W.(Woody) Junkins who preceded her in death in January 1988.
She is survived by two daughters, Katherine (Kay) Ashcraft and husband Rodney, Bristol, Rebecca Carol Davis, Haleyville, Alabama, four sons, Kenneth Junkins, Bristol, Daniel Junkins and wife, Barbara, Atwood, TN, James Junkins and wife, Carman, Grandin, ND, Charles Junkins and wife, Rachel, Tupelo, Miss., 21grandchildren,36 great grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Jewell Martel and husband Raymond, Chula Vista, CA, Betty Moore and husband, Joe, Clarksburg, one sister-in-law, Margaret Martin, Niceville, FL, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Katherine was preceded in death by two daughters, Judy Joan Junkins, Elizabeth Ann Junkins, two sons, William W. Junkins Jr. Robert Richard Junkins, two sisters, Cora Bell Floyd, Edith Brumage, two brothers, Kenneth Martin and Seth Franklin Martin.
Katherine will be remembered for her warm and caring heart, her mischievous grin, her hugs and her giggle that her family delighted to hear. She was a quiet woman full of kindness, compassion and an indomitable spirit. She loved reading, working jigsaw puzzles and working with her flowers. For many of her adult years she helped take care of her and Woodys younger brothers and sisters. She was a former employee of P.J. Gould as a seamstress. She was a member of the Lumberport Baptist Church.
Friends may call in the Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main St. Salem on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and from 9AM, Wednesday until time of service. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 11AM in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Gene Burnside officiating. Interment will follow in the K of P Memorial Park, Salem.
