Kathie LaVaughn Davis, 81, of the Big Battle Community in Salem, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at her residence with her loving family by her side. She was born on May 23, 1944, in Doddridge County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Howard and Mabel Coweta Currey Phillips.
Kathie devoted her life to her home and family, embracing her role as a homemaker with grace, skill, and quiet strength. She found joy in the simple, meaningful things—baking and cooking for those she loved, and she was especially known for her delicious homemade bread. An avid gardener, Kathie took great pride in her flowers, tending them with patience and care. She also enjoyed bird watching, canning, sewing, and quilting, creating not just beautiful things, but lasting memories for those around her.
A faithful follower of God, Kathie was a devoted member of Welcome Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher. Her faith was evident in the way she lived—kind, giving, and steadfast—touching the lives of many in her church and community.
Kathie is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Larry Gene Davis; two daughters, Sherry Gene Davis and husband Norman Cox of Center Point, and Terry Lee Underwood and her husband, Little Mike, of Big Battle; two grandchildren, Kendra Mercer and her husband, Brian, and John Underwood and his wife, Brittany, all of Salem; and two great-granddaughters, Amelia and Caroline. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
In addition to her parents, Kathie was preceded in death by her grandson, Laramie Blue Davis; two brothers, Einer Dale Phillips and his wife, Margie, and Ora Ray Phillips and his wife, Joyce.
Family and friends will be received at Welcome Baptist Church, 4049 Big Battle Run, Salem, WV, on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Center Point Cemetery.
