Larry Johnson Obituary

Larry Brooks Johnson, 80, of Salem entered heaven where peace and joy was awaiting him on Wednesday morning, September 10, 2025.  He passed peacefully with his loving family by his side.  Larry was born on July 11, 1945 in Salem, a son of the late Ray Brooks Johnson and Violet Mae Thompson Johnson.
He is survived by the love of his life and mother of his children, Barbara Hutson Johnson; two daughters, Chantel Campbell (Sam) of Miletus and Chayna Trent (Jeremy) also of Miletus; grandchildren, Jerod, Jaxon, Jasper and Jett Trent; Aunt Margaret Kennedy; brothers, Jim Johnson(Vicki) and Mike Johnson (Charlotte); David Johnson (Elaine)(Donna) and Joseph Johnson(Brenda) and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Geneva Tyson, Kenneth Johnson and Sue Robison. A proud Vietnam War veteran Brooks served as an Army Sergent and dedicated his life to serving his country and supporting his fellow veterans. His commitment to service was matched only by his passion for life and his fierce loyalty to those he loved.

Brooks was a man of many passions. He was a thrill-seeker who loved antique cars. His hands were never idle, always fixing, or working outside, improving something around him.

Known for his protective nature, fiery spirit, and fun-loving personality, Brooks had a knack for making those around him feel special. His good-natured humor and hardworking mentality left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was the embodiment of strength and kindness, always giving his best in everything he did. The family wants to extend an immense amount of appreciation to his care team that helped in his last days.
