Lawrence Edwin Siders, 82 of Salem passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at his residence surrounded by loving family. He was born November 27, 1940, in Bristol to the late Hugh James and Priscilla Moore Siders. Mr. Siders attended Bristol High School, before joining the1092nd Engineer Battalion, WV Army National Guard, Salem, WV. In 1963, he began working for the B&O Railroad until retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed golfing with friends and family at Lake Floyd Golf Course, bowling at Compton Lanes, and volunteering at Van Horn Grade School. His favorite pastime however, was spending time with his family. He enjoyed helping his sons work on cars and house projects. He was constantly fixing and fiddling with different things. Lawrence was called many names over the years, but his favorite was Papaw, by his three great grandsons: Avery and Oliver Siders and Theodore Yost. In addition to his great grandsons, he is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marion Doretha (Riddle) Siders; one son, Larry Siders; one daughter-in-law, Karen Siders all of Salem; sister, Edna Jean Davis of Bristol; sister-in-law, Jean Myers of Shinnston; grandchildren, Amber Siders and companion Emmy Heaton of Buckhannon, Devron Siders and Colby of Salem, Jessica Yost and Michael of Clarksburg, Heather Cox of New Milton, Annamarie Short of Charleston, and Oliver “Keith” Frazier and Stephanie of Amesville, OH; special nephew, Rick Siders and Joyce of Salem; special niece, Regina and Tracy Colton of Shinnston, several nieces, nephews, and cousins and his four legged companion, Easton. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Jeffrey “Jeff” Lynne Siders in 2019 and daughter-in-law, Nancy Siders in 2023. He is also preceded by brothers Hugh Jr. and Melvin “Tex” Siders and a special brother-in-law, Pete Myers and brother-in-law, Bill Davis. The family would like to thank neighbors Noel Ealey and Greg and Brandie Garner for their constant care, support, and love as well as WVU Medicine Home Health and Hospice for their compassion and care. A private visitation and funeral service, with only close family members present, will be held at Davis Funeral Home - Salem with Pastor Phil Wayman officiating. Private Interment at K of P Cemetery.
