Leo Ross Jigs Burton Sr., 84, of Rt. 2, Salem departed this life on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at his residence.
He was born on November 12, 1927 on Rush Run (Gilmer County), a son of the late Eustace and Minnie Scott Burton. Twice married, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Jean Allen Burton on December 1982. On August 19, 1985 he married Virginia Richards Burton who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Martha Ann Lawson and husband, David, of Weirton, Karen Sue Stoffel, of Mesa, AZ, and Teresa Lynn Bowman and husband ,Darren, of Salem; one son, Leo Ross Burton, Jr.and wife, Jackie, of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Leone Purcell, of Atlanta, GA.
Two brothers, Argel Glen Burton and Ronzel Burton; and one sister, Gladys Pearl Burton Sisk, preceded him in death.
Mr. Burton was a 1946 graduate of Doddridge County High School and was retired from Weirton Steel as a Head-Miller with 33 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict; a lifetime member of Sperry Davis Post #9151 VFW, Salem; and American Legion Post #13, Clarksburg. Leo enjoyed hunting, fishing, working his tractor and riding motorcycles. He enjoyed all outdoor activities. Leo was a member of the Cascara United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Cascara United Methodist Church, Rt. 23 N., Salem on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Lester Stinebiser and Pastor John Elbert presiding. Interment will follow in the K of P Memorial Park, Salem. Full Military graveside rites will be accorded. The family will receive friends in the Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main St., Salem on Friday, September 28, 2012 from 4-8PM. Mr. Burton will lie in state one hour prior to his services Saturday at the church.
