Linda DeLong Obituary

Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Linda Carol (Sweigart) DeLong, 68, passed away on Saturday, January 24th, 2026, at her home in Clarksburg, WV.

Linda was born in Borger, TX on October 27th, 1957 to Douglas Arthur and Jessie Marjorie (Crabb) Sweigart.

A lifelong creative, Linda had a passion for sewing, quilting, and cross-stitching, devoting many hours to crafting warm, colorful comforts to enrich her loved ones’ lives.

She expressed her love of music and godly praise through hymns and worship songs, played (and softly sung) at the piano.

She loved animals, both adopting and being adopted by a pride of cuddly lap cats over the years.

Linda loved to be in nature, cultivating small farms and colorful gardens in her backyards, and brightening her home with cacti, flowers, and lush, leafy greenery as time and energy allowed.

An avid reader, Linda always had a book or two on hand, consuming a library’s worth of stories in her often-limited spare time.

A chronic pain and illness warrior, Linda was an inspiring example of endurance, strength, faith, and quiet grace through suffering.

Linda was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother who centered her life around her family.

She also served the church and her community for many years, sharing in her husband’s pastoral ministry in the Church of God (Seventh Day). She was a kindhearted soul who advocated for the downtrodden with a fierce sense of justice.

Linda is survived by her loving husband of forty-eight years, David Lincoln DeLong; her four children, Jesse DeLong, Amethyst (Eric) Luis, Susanna (Liam) Davis, and Joseph DeLong; her six precious grandchildren, Caleb DeLong, and Lucy, Cora, Levi, Iris, and Abel Davis; her sister, Karen (James) Hagee, and her brother, Christopher Sweigart. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Family and friends will be received at Davis Funeral Home–Salem, 1999 W. Main Street, Salem, WV, on Sunday, February 8th, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Davis Funeral Home–Salem. Interment will follow at the Salem I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
