Lyle R. Benedum 81 of Raccoon Run Rd. Salem departed this life on Thursday, December 25, 2014. He was born in Salem on October 12, 1933 a son of the late Grover and Ila Iowa Yerkey Benedum. On October 17, 1959 he married Joan Kimball Benedum who preceded him in death on October 27, 2014.
Surviving is one daughter, Marcia Mires and husband David, Salem, three sons, Michael Benedum, Salem, Martin Benedum, Bluefield, Mark Benedum and wife Sabrina, Salem, one granddaughter, Kelsea Benedum, six grandsons, Travis Evans and wife Victoria, Nicholas Mires, Brett,Tyler, Bryce and Brock Benedum, one great granddaughter, London Evans and several nieces and nephews. Lyle was the last surviving member of a quadruplet birth being preceded in death by three infant sisters. In addition to the three infant sisters, he was preceded in death by sisters, Betty Ford, Mary Jo Butcher, and two brothers, Walter and George Benedum.
Mr. Benedum was retired from Union Carbide as a control room operator. He was co-owner and operator of Benedum & Sons Inc. Lyle was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He attended the Light House Baptist Church. Lyle enjoyed racing, hunting, horses and all outdoors activities. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Harbert Funeral Home 287 W. Main St. Salem on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 11:00AM with Pastor Danny Fleming presiding. Interment will follow in the Salem I.O.O.F. Memorial Park with full military honors being accorded by the Combined Doddridge County Veterans Orginizations. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 4-8PM. Expressions of sympathy may be extended to the family at www.harbertfuneralhome.com.
