Mary Pratt Obituary

Mary D. Pratt, 92, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026, at United Hospital Center, surrounded by the comfort of a life well lived and deeply loved.

Born on August 3, 1933, in Buckhannon, she was the cherished daughter of the late Albert J. and Letha Harris Shreve. Mary lived a life rooted in simplicity, kindness, and devotion—qualities that defined her both as a homemaker and as the heart of her family.

Mary took great pride in her home, where love was always present and where she created a place of warmth and comfort for those she cared about most. She found joy in tending to her flower gardens, nurturing beauty from the earth with the same care she gave to her family. Her love for collecting knickknacks reflected her appreciation for life’s small treasures—each piece holding meaning, just as every moment with her family did.

She was a devoted member of Wolf Summit Methodist Church until its closing, where her quiet faith and gentle spirit were a source of strength and fellowship.

Mary’s greatest joy was her family. She is lovingly remembered by her son, James J. Pratt of Salem, along with several nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward with love.

In addition to her parents, Mary was reunited in passing with her beloved husband, James Ira Pratt, whom she married on June 27, 1957, and who preceded her in death on June 17, 2015. Their marriage was a lasting testament to love and commitment. She was also preceded in death by her son, Mark Allen Pratt; and her sisters, Betty Fallen and Agnes Channel.

Family and friends will be received at Davis Funeral Home – Salem, 1999 W. Main Street, Salem, WV, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., and again on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 12:00 noon until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel, with Rev. Elizabeth Jarrett officiating. Interment will follow at K of P Cemetery.

Mary will be remembered for her gentle heart, her unwavering love for her family, and the quiet, beautiful life she built around those she cherished most. Her presence was a blessing, and her memory will remain a comfort to all who knew and loved her.
