Michael "Big Mike" Patrick Hinton

Michael Patrick Hinton, 82, of Salem, West Virginia, passed away suddenly on October 21, 2025, at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.

Born April 22, 1943, to Anna Marie and Harry Hinton Jr, Michael grew up in Clarksburg alongside his late brother, Thomas Hinton. He dedicated his life to public service, proudly serving as a career officer with the Harrison County Sheriff's Department, later ending his career as a Deputy Bailiff, a position he held for many years. Known for his professionalism, steady leadership, and unwavering commitment to his community, Michael earned the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

Affectionately known as Big Mike, he was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.

He enjoyed spending time with family, sharing stories, and making everyone around him laugh. Big Mike was the kind of man who could light up a room with his humor and positivity.

He approached life with a kind heart, an easy smile, and an unshakable love for those closest to him.

Michael was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose family was the heart of his world. He is survived by his loving wife, Harriet Diane Hinton; sons Michael D. Hinton (wife Devin Hinton) and Jeffrey C. Hinton (wife Lori Hinton); and daughter Nicole Sinclair (husband Richard). He also leaves behind multiple cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Marie and Harold Hinton, and his brother, Thomas Hinton.

Per Michael's wishes, he will be cremated, and his ashes will be handled privately by his family. Those who knew him are encouraged to remember Big Mike in their own way— whether through a day spent outdoors, a good laugh shared with loved ones, or a story told in his memory.
