Obarita P. Kennedy, 79 of Salem departed this life on Saturday, October 19, 2013 in Genesis Health Care Center, Salem. She was born on February 25, 1934 at Wolf Summit a daughter of the late Clyde H. and Agnes G. Hammond Chipps. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Jackson Kennedy.
Surviving is two daughters, Carla Jo Davis and husband Michael, West Union, Alvenia Chipps and husband David, Stealey, NC., two sons, Clyde Edward Ray, Salem, Charles Jackson Kennedy III, Farmers Court, NC, two sisters, Eleanor Chipps, Akron, OH, Judy Chipps, Clarksburg, one brother, Sid Chipps, West Milford, 16 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. One son, John Chipps, one granddaughter, Frances Jean Stout, one brother, Harry Chipps, one sister, Jeanne Chipps, two nephews, Kenneth Wayne Peoples and Richards Chipps preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kennedy had worked for Braden's & Moore's Restaurant as a waitress for many years. She had been a former employee of Anchor Hocking and had worked as an aide at Genesis Health Care Center. Mrs. Kennedy was a lifetime member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW #9151 Salem.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Harbert Funeral Home 287 W. Main St. Salem on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 10AM with Pastor Jon Hayes presiding. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 from 4-8PM.
