Richard Allen Davis

July 24, 1937 ~ February 10, 2022 (age 84)

Richard Allen Davis (84) passed away on February 10, 2022 at his home. He was born July 24, 1937 and was a son of the late Edgar F. and Dorothy Jean Davis. On July 11, 1958 he married Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Givens and was happily married for 63 years. He is survived by one son, Dean and wife Paul Davis, Loudon, TN and daughter De Ann Davis of Salem, WV. Also, two brothers, Bob and Mary Davis of Guntersville, AL. and Joe and Susie Davis of Salem, WV. Richard was proceeded in death by his brother William and Bobbie Davis of Southport, NC and in-laws Raymond and Yvonne Givens of Salem, WV.

Richard graduated from Salem High School in 1955 and from Salem College in 1959. He spent his working career primarily in the glass industry starting with PPG in Stonewood. He was transferred to PPG’s home office in Pittsburg and later to their plant in Meadville, PA as Production Control Manager. In 1974, he joined Fourco Glass Co. (AFG) where he assisted in the design and start-up of the Jerry Run float glass plant. He was transferred to AFG’s home office in Kingsport, TN and then to their Wondura Mirror plant in Tupelo MS as Vice President of Materials.

Richard was an avid reader, loved to be with his grand-kids (Andrea Davis, Birmingham, AL, Doug Davis, Atlanta, GA, Marisa Davis, New York, NY) and enjoyed working on his computer. He was a dedicated Christian and a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he was the chairman of the deacon board and taught the adult Sunday School class for several years.

One of his greatest gifts was a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor that made everyone around him laugh and enjoy his company. Richard was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
