Rita Mae Law, 63, of Salem, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on Friday, January 23, 2026. She was born in Harrison County on November 25, 1962, a daughter of the late Carroll Eugene “Snuffy” Cottrill and Ellen Jane Hayes Cottrill.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, John Law, whom she married on August 6, 1994.
She is also survived by two children, Jeffrey Lynn Davis, Jr. and wife Jessica of Salem and Melanie Jo Davis Kimble and husband Michael of Salem; six grandchildren, Zachery Lynn Davis, Emily Paige Davis, James Taylor Howell, Peyton Eli Howell, Ashton Lucas Howell and Colton Matthew Howell; siblings, Janet Layfield and husband Greg, Judy Eddy, Ronnie Burbridge and wife Kay and Jimmy Burbridge, Regina Gaines, Barbara Utter and Don Cottrill; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Burbridge and Roger Cottrill.
Rita dedicated many years of her life to serving others, working for IGA for 25 years and at Moore’s Restaurant. She found her greatest joy in her family, especially her children and grandchildren, who were the center of her world. Rita loved collecting jewelry, listening to gospel music, and spending quiet time doing crossword puzzles. She will be remembered as a caring and selfless woman — sweet, compassionate, and always thinking of others before herself. Her love, especially for her children and grandchildren, will remain forever in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Rita was a Christian who was confident in her relationship with the Lord.
