Roberta Evelyn (Smith) Richards

Roberta Evelyn Richards, 92 of Salem (Big Isaac Community) passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Salem Center with family by her side.

She was born April 20, 1930 in Benson Community, daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Theo Vivian Straley Smith.

Roberta graduated from Unidis High School, Class of 1947 and WV Business College in 1948. Her first job was with Clarksburg Publishing Co. Circulation Department and then Job Shop (Classifieds). She was co-owner of Richards Grocery in Big Isaac and last postmistress of the Big Isaac Post Office. She also worked at Keith Woodruff Inc, Salem Dollar General and was a foster grandparent for almost twenty years at Big Isaac Elementary School, Greenbrier Elementary School and Doddridge County Elementary School. Roberta was a member of the Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, and attended Big Isaac United Methodist Church, Mission Church of Faith Church and other churches in the area.

She is survived by her two children, Judith “Judy” Weekley and husband Mike, William “Bill” Richards and wife Donna all of Big Isaac Community; five grandchildren, Dana and Carolyn, Angel, Amy and Edward, Benjamin and Amanda, Micah and Josh; thirteen great grandchildren, Michael, Timothy, Ethan, Evan, Elaina, Emily, Levi, Carson, Owen, Benson, Chrissy, Christyn and Grayson; five great great granddaughters, Deborah, Shay, Athena, Bianca, and Raelynn.

In addition to her parents, Roberta was preceded in death by her husband Stanley “Peck” Richards and one son in infancy, Roger Lynn Richards.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home - Salem, 1999 W. Main Street, Salem, on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 3-7pm and on Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 9AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 10:00am with Pastor David Cumpston officiating.
