Russell Paul Layfield, 77 of Big Isaac community departed this life on Sunday, September 22, 2013 in his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January
12, 1936 at Oil Ridge (Ritchie County) the son of the late Guy R. and Annie Lena Willliamson Layfield. He is survived by his wife Barbara Morgan Arbogast Layfield.
Also surviving is two daughters, Kimberly Carnes, Hepzibah,Michella Nuce and husband James, Monongah, one son, Gregory Layfield and wife Janet, Salem, step sons, Arlit Arbogast Jr. and companion Nancy Nuzum, William D. Arbogast and wife Mary, Elk Lick, grandchildren, Shane and Cindy Carnes, Conway, SC, Shania Carnes, Salem, Ashley and Dustin Smith, Morgantown, Chace Burr, Monongah, Cindy and Ronnie Davis, Salem, Jamie and Danny Reaser, Colorado Springs, CO, Amanda and Rusty John, Weston, Brandon Arbogast, Morgantown, great grandchildren, Avery Carnes, Samara Smith, Bridget, Douglas and Ryan Davis, Keegan, Chance and McKenzie Reaser, Michael Brown, Maria and Brionna Allen and Janson John, great great grandchildren, Pacey, Kenzie and Reagan Davis, sisters, Virginia Amos, Pullman, Edna Lowther and husband Jim, Murphytown, Aretta June Porter and husband Bob, Cairo, Mildred Sumlin and husband Gene, Nebo, NC, Margery Jackson, Canton, OH, and Delma Bunner, St. Mary's, brothers, Henry Layfield, Nebo, NC, Raymond and Andy Layfield, Cairo and several nieces and nephews. One daughter, Dianna Sue Layfield, one brother Pete Layfield, one sister, Betty McVay, two son-in-laws, William Carnes and Randall Burr preceded him in death.
Mr. Layfield was retired from Fluharty Enterprises. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church,Salem. Russell enjoyed camping, fishing and going to gospel sings. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Harbert Funeral; Home 287 W. Main St. Salem, on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 2:00PM with Pastor Tim Sandy and Pastor Jon Hayes presiding. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 after 11AM until time of service.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice 67 Casino Dr. Suite 102 Anmoore, WV 26323. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to his nurse, Heather Price and aid Penny Frye.
