Sarah Jane Pumphrey

Sarah Jane Pumphrey, 71, of Salem passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025 at United Hospital Center. She was born December 9, 1953 in Salem, daughter of the late Lewis Marshall and Mary Lucille Morgan Swann.

Sarah is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, John Edward Pumphrey; one son, John Pumphrey Jr, Salem; thirteen siblings, Barbara Hart, Salem, Ethel Lane,  Clarksburg, Walter Swann, Ripley, Mary Evans, Clarksburg, Carolyn Moore (Mykel), Clarksburg, Wilma Nicholson, Greenwood, Ronnie Swann (Sherry), West Union, Lewis Swann Jr (Kaye), Salem, Larry Swann (Amy), Charleston, Beverley Hudkins (Allen) Clarksburg, Debra Swann, Clarksburg, David Swann (Faith), West Union, and Kevin Swann, Bridgeport; several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Toy Ebnese and Antoinetta Dericka Pumphrey.

Sarah graduated from Doddridge County High School, Class of 1971. Sarah had worked as a CNA at the nursing home in Salem. She enjoyed canning and cooking big family meals from scratch and she will be remembered for the best homemade pepperoni rolls. She enjoyed flowers and antiques. Sarah had a heart of gold and loved spending time with her family and spoiling her nieces and nephews. She attended Reynoldsville Baptist Church.
