Shirley Bunting Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shirley Kay Bunting, 77, of West Union, who entered eternal rest on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Born on July 13, 1948, in Sistersville, West Virginia, Shirley was the cherished daughter of the late Oakey Robert Peters Sr. and Betty Jane Leasure Peters. A devoted homemaker, Shirley dedicated her life to her family, creating a home filled with love, warmth, and quiet strength. Whether she was curled up with a good book, enjoying the outdoors, or simply watching her favorite shows, Shirley found peace in life’s simple joys.

Her greatest joy, however, came from her family. She leaves behind her loving children, Starlene Kay Gray (William L.) and Dwayne Alan Bunting (Linda), both of West Union, who were the center of her world. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Brittney Kay Richards (Travis) and John Tyler Bunting, and a beloved great-grandmother to Mason and Maddie Richards, and Lillian Bunting, all of whom brought her endless happiness and pride.

Shirley’s memory will also be cherished by her siblings: Ronald L. Peters, Roger D. Peters, Oakey R. Peters Jr., Connie Wood, Linda Bunting (Victor), and Donna Letto, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will forever remember her kindness, quiet wisdom, and unwavering love.

She is now reunited in eternal peace with those who went before her, including her husband, John Alexander Bunting, who passed on September 18, 2007; her precious grandchildren, Michael Alan Bunting and Mistina Star Gray; her great-grandson, John Carter Lacher Bunting; her brother, William Peters; and her beloved parents.

Shirley will be laid to rest at Randolph Cemetery in West Union, a peaceful resting place surrounded by the hills she called home.
