Steve Schartiger, 60 of Salem, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by those who loved him most.
Born on October 4, 1964, Steve dedicated his life to helping others. Whether serving as a volunteer firefighter, an EMT, or simply lending a hand to a neighbor or friend, Steve was always the first to show up and the last to leave. He was a true servant at heart — the kind of man who never met a stranger and always had a solution to any problem.
Steve’s presence lit up every room. He had an infectious laugh, a larger-than-life personality, and a gift for making everyone feel like family. He was the person everyone turned to — not just for help, but for comfort, wisdom, and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Miranda, and their daughters, Rebecca (Jessica), Madison, Jaelynn, and Reagan; several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Slagle. Steve’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched in every life he helped save, every person he lifted up, and in the love and laughter he brought to his family and community.
Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home - Salem, 1999 W.
