Verna Louise Evans, 86, of Salem, WV, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Clarksburg Healthcare Center. She was born on September 30, 1939, in Salem, a daughter of the late Lester Ira and Thelma Virginia (Edgel) Thompson.
In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, William ‘Bill’ Roger Evans, whom she married on April 19, 1959, and with whom she shared a lifetime of cherished memories.
Verna was a woman of quiet strength, deep love, and unwavering dedication to her family. She spent many years working at the Judel Glass Factory and later devoted 15 years of faithful service as a custodian at Salem United Methodist Church. In both her work and her daily life, she took pride in caring for others and the spaces around her.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—working puzzles, tending to her garden, and most of all, spending cherished time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and countless treasured memories.
Verna is survived by her two daughters, Tina Louise Martin and husband Danny Lee of Bristol, and Lorena Dawn Bland and husband Hubert “Hubie” Jr. of Salem. She also leaves behind three beloved grandchildren: Amanda Jackson and husband Jeremy, Jamie Bland, Eric Martin and Leah. Her legacy continues through her two great-grandchildren—Michael, and Gabriel—who brought her immense pride and happiness.
She is also survived by her brother, Arnet Thompson and wife Ophelia of Jacksonville, Florida, along with several nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her kindness and gentle spirit.
Family and friends will be received at Davis Funeral Home – Salem, 1999 W. Main Street, Salem, WV, on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., with Robert Marino officiating. Interment will follow at Flemington I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Though she will be deeply missed, Verna’s love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
