Vernon L. Varner, 61 of Rosebud Lane, Salem departed this life on Monday, July 28, 2014 in the United Hospital Center with his family by his side. He was born on April 14, 1953 in Harrison County a son of the late Stanley and Emogene Bramer Varner. On December 3, 1996 he was preceded in death by his wife Cheryl Rohde Varner.
Surviving is one sister Judith Merritt Hess, Overland Park, KA, one brother Hayward Varner,Chloe,WV, companion, Diana Davis, Big Flint, special neighbors, Tom and Rose Bowling, In-laws, Roger and Eva Larson, Randolph, NE, Wendell Rohde, Newfort,NE, nephews, Rick, Randy and Duncan Merritt, Scott and Jesse Cayton, Brandon Faber and Kevin Larson, nieces, Cheryl Tackett, Tina Davis, Traci Pittman, Emily Merritt, Christie Larson, Cyla Rohde, and Chandra Brandenberger. One brother Kent Varner and one sister, Brenda Jo Varner preceded him in death.
Mr. Varner was a 1971 graduate of Doddridge County High School. He was a heavy equipment operator for T.A. Chapman with 25 years of service, Bilco Construction with 12 years of service and had worked for Hall Drilling, Roby Excavating and Swiger Construction. Vernon enjoyed deer hunting, front porch conversations and cookouts with his friends. He was a loving uncle and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Harbert Funeral Home 287 W. Main St. Salem on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 11:00AM with Pastor Robert Merritt presiding. Interment will follow in the Christian Church Cemetery, Center Point. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Friday, August 1, 2014 from 4-8PM.
The family would like to express their thanks for the special care given to Vernon from Salem Family Medicine, Doddridge County Senior Citizens, the staff of United Hospital Center and his many friends down Route 23.
