Violet Mae Gaskins, 94, of Salem passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at United Hospital Center with family by her side. Violet was born August 13, 1928 in Shirley, WV, daughter of the late Charles Everett and Nancy Evelyn Thompson Lasure. Violet graduated from Doddridge County High School. She worked as a Seamstress at the Garment Factory in West Union for twenty-five years. Violet enjoyed traveling, reading, quilting, sewing, gardening, and most of all spending time with her family. Violet is survived by five children, Lynda Kinney, West Union, Carl Gaskins and wife Debby, Shinnston, Lillian Travis, Salem, James Gaskins and wife Lorraine, Good Hope, Jesse Gaskins, Salem; son-in-law, Bob Zirkle, Buckhannon; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Basil “Carl” Gaskins who passed on January 22, 1986 and whom she married on September 20, 1947; daughter, Virginia Zirkle; sons-in-law, Richard Kinney, Steve Travis, Lawrence “Rick” Jenkins. Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home - Salem, 1999 W. Main Street, Salem, on Monday, September 26, 2022 from 3-7PM. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Robert Marino officiating. Interment will follow at Gaskins Cemetery.
