Violet Leona Richards, 95 of Randolph Terrace apartments, Salem departed this life on Wednesday April 20, 2106 in her residence. She was born on November 26, 1920 on Jockey Camp, Doddridge Co. to the late John Porter and Alice Laverne Hurst Hayes. Her husband Albert Henry Richards preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Charles E. "Sonny" Richards, Salem, three grandchildren, Roland "Skeets" Richards, Brenda Paugh, Becky Myers and several great grandchildren, one sister, Lena Thompson, Salem, a good friend and care-giver, April Rowan, several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by one daughter, Oma Lee Kelley, infant daughter, two grandchildren, Francis Richards and John K. Kelley, two brothers, Claude Hayes and Russell Jennings, one sister, Mildred Hayes.
Mrs. Richards was a homemaker and enjoyed reminiscing about family history. She was "sharp up to the end". She had attended Salem Church of God. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care she received from People's Hospice.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Harbert Funeral Home 287 W. Main St. Salem on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2PM with Pastor Richard Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive in the funeral home chapel from 10:30 AM until time of service. Harbert Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Richards family.
