William “Roger” Cottrill, age 80, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Salem Center. Born on March 29, 1945, in Doddridge County, Roger was the beloved son of the late Lawrence Burl and Tressie Louise Forrester Cottrill.
Roger spent much of his life working on the farm, where he found purpose, pride, and a quiet joy in the rhythm of the land. He had a gentle spirit and a creative soul—one who cherished the simple pleasures of life. Whether he was working through a jigsaw puzzle, painting or coloring with soft concentration, or listening to the country music he loved so dearly, Roger found beauty in the small, meaningful moments. His fascination with American Indian collectibles and his love for camping trips with family created memories that those who loved him will hold close forever.
Roger’s memory will live on in the hearts of his brothers, James Lynn Cottrill (Phylis) of Salem and Rodney Francis Cottrill (Vicki) of Nutter Fort; two sisters-in-law, Julie Cottrill, Clarksburg, Winona Forrester, Orlando, FL, as well as several nieces and nephews who were blessed by his presence, kindness, and quiet warmth.
He is reunited in peace with his siblings: Rhea Richards (Henry), David Cottrill, Robert Forrester, Lawrence Cottrill (Joyce), and Kenneth Cottrill, who surely welcomed him home with open arms.
Family and friends are invited to gather and honor Roger’s life at Davis Funeral Home – Salem, 1999 W Main Street, Salem, WV, where visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Lou Ortenzio. A private interment will take place at Keys Cemetery.
